In this guide
Most people shopping for a jogging stroller do not need one. For long walks on park paths and the odd gravel trail, a good all-terrain stroller with air tires does the job for less money, weight and boot space. A jogging stroller earns its price only if someone is actually going to run behind it, at pace, more than once a week.
For that person, three things separate a stroller built for running from one that has borrowed the shape: a front wheel that locks straight, a way to correct the tracking when it drifts, and some form of control on a downhill, either a hand brake or at minimum a wrist strap. The five picks below are sorted on those three things first, with price, weight and fold second.
None of them change the age rule. Every maker that publishes a running age for its own frame puts it at 8 months, and that floor is set out in full in when can a baby ride in a jogging stroller. Read it before the first run, not after.
What the federal standard checks, and what it leaves out
Every stroller sold in the United States, joggers included, must meet ASTM F833-21, the voluntary standard that 16 CFR Part 1227 makes mandatory. The CPSC's business guidance for carriages and strollers lists what it tests: the parking brake, static load, stability, the restraint system, occupant retention, wheel and swivel assembly detachment, and head entrapment with a car seat attached, among others. Strollers made after February 15, 2022 must meet the 2021 edition.
That list matters for what is missing from it. The standard tests a parking brake, the one you set with your foot when the stroller is standing still. Nothing in the CPSC's summary of requirements covers a hand brake, a wrist strap or the handling of a stroller at running speed. A frame can pass F833-21 in full with no way to slow down on a hill except your grip.
The recall record adds one more point. When jogging strollers are recalled, it is usually the front wheel: a quick-release axle, a fork bearing, a wheel that can come loose.
How these five were picked
A lockable or fixed front wheel. A swivel wheel at running pace wanders, so every pick either locks straight or does not swivel at all.
A published running age, or an honest note where there is none. BOB Gear prints 8 weeks in the seat for walking and 8 months for running. Thule, Joovy and Baby Trend publish no separate running age on the pages cited here, and the cards say so.
Downhill control, stated by the maker. Two picks have a hand brake. Two have a wrist strap or tether instead. The cheapest has neither listed, which is the main reason it is placed last.

BOB Gear Revolution Flex 3.0 Jogging Stroller, Graphite Black
The Revolution Flex 3.0 is the default answer for most people who will genuinely run. BOB's sell sheet covers the parts that matter for pace: a swivel-locking front wheel with a tracking adjustment knob to keep the stroller running straight when it is locked, a wrist strap, mountain-bike-style suspension and 16-inch rear and 12-inch front air tires. The handlebar has nine positions and stands 43 inches, the frame is 24.5 inches across, and capacity is 75 lb. BOB backs the frame for five years and the small parts and fabric for one. It is wrong for anyone running steep hills, because it has no hand brake, and wrong for a small boot, since it folds to 38 by 25 by 16 inches with the wheels on.

- The infant seat adapter is sold separately

BOB Gear Alterrain Pro Jogging Stroller, Black
The Alterrain Pro is the Flex 3.0 with the one thing it lacks. BOB's product page lists a handbrake for downhill control, SmoothShox suspension, a swivel-locking front wheel with adjustable tracking, and 12-inch front and 16-inch rear pneumatic tires with an all-terrain tread. Capacity is 75 lb, with a 44-inch child height limit. BOB states 8 weeks in the stroller seat for walking only and 8 months for jogging or off-road use. BOB's own store lists it at $829.99, so the Amazon price was well below list on the date checked. It is wrong for anyone who lifts a stroller into a car more than once a day, because at 32.3 lb it is the heaviest frame here.

Thule Glide 3 All-Terrain and Jogging Stroller, Black
The Glide 3 is the only pick built purely for running. Its 16-inch front wheel is fixed and does not swivel at all, paired with 18-inch rear wheels, and Thule pairs that with an integrated twist hand brake. It weighs 24.9 lb, the lightest frame here, and folds to 35 by 22.8 by 12 inches. Thule lists a 27-inch door pass-through and a 49 lb child limit within a 75 lb total capacity. Amazon's price matched Thule's own list price of $849.95 on the date checked. It is wrong for anyone who wants one stroller for both runs and supermarkets, because a fixed front wheel has to be lifted to turn tightly, and wrong for a family expecting a tall four-year-old to ride, with the lowest child weight limit of the four premium picks.

- Weight
- 24.9 lb
- Folded
- 35 x 22.8 x 12 in

- Flattest fold here at 12 inches high
What to know
- A fixed front wheel is clumsy in shops and tight corners
- 49 lb child weight limit, lower than the BOB and Joovy frames
- The most expensive pick by a wide margin

Joovy Zoom360 Ultralight Jogging Stroller, Black
The Zoom360 Ultralight is the mid-priced runner. Joovy lists a front wheel that locks straight for running and swivels for everyday use, 16-inch rear and 12.5-inch front air tires, rear suspension, and a 75 lb capacity. The manual adds a wrist tether strap on the rear frame and a linked rear parking brake. Two limits in that manual deserve reading before buying: the seat is for 3 months and up, fully reclined only until 6 months, and the basket is rated to just 5 lb. Joovy backs it with a 90-day limited warranty. It is wrong for hills, because there is no hand brake, and wrong for a long walk with a day's worth of gear, given that 5 lb basket.

Baby Trend Expedition Jogger, Dash Grey
The Expedition Jogger is the honest budget option. Baby Trend's product page lists a front wheel that swivels for maneuvering and locks for in-line use, a 5-point harness, a rotating canopy, parent and child trays with two cup holders each, and a child tray that accepts Baby Trend EZ-Lift infant seats to make a travel system. What the page does not publish is a frame weight, a child weight limit, a running age, a hand brake or a wrist strap. For a stroller sold with the word jogger in its name, that is a lot to leave out. It is wrong for anyone planning to actually run, and right for walking on gravel at a price the others cannot touch.

Who each one is wrong for
The Flex 3.0 is wrong for anyone whose regular route has a long, steep descent. A wrist strap stops a runaway stroller. It does not slow one down.
The Alterrain Pro is wrong for a walk-up flat or a crowded boot. It is the heaviest and bulkiest here.
The Glide 3 is wrong as an only stroller. A fixed front wheel is a running tool, and the first trip down a supermarket aisle will make that clear.
The Zoom360 Ultralight is wrong for a parent who wants the stroller to double as the shopping trolley. Its basket is rated to 5 lb.
The Expedition Jogger is wrong for running, full stop, until Baby Trend publishes the numbers that would say otherwise.
The recall on this list, and how to read it
The Zoom360 Ultralight was recalled in October 2021, CPSC recall number 22-701. The front wheel bearing could fail or detach. Joovy had received 25 reports of restricted front wheel movement, including 12 where the fork bearing wore through its housing and came off, and one fall that caused bruises. The remedy was a free repair kit. The recall covered about 9,200 strollers with SKU 8060, 8061, 8067 or 8069 and a batch date between March and October 2020, sold from May to December 2020.
Anyone buying a Zoom360 second-hand should read the label on the inside leg, which carries the SKU and batch number, and check it against the CPSC notice. BOB's own history includes a 2019 recall of a modified thru-bolt axle sent to owners of BOB jogging strollers made from 2009 to 2015, after reports that it could fracture and let the front wheel detach. Both point at the same part: on a jogging stroller, check the front wheel attachment before every run.
Before the first run
Settle three things before any of these goes out at pace.
The age. Read the maker's own running age for the exact model. Where a maker prints none, the 8-month floor the category uses is the safe working assumption, and steady head and neck control is a question for the child's pediatrician rather than a calendar. The reasoning behind that floor is in when can a baby ride in a jogging stroller.
The car seat pairing. Before 8 months, a jogging frame is a walking frame used with the seat reclined or an infant car seat on the maker's adapter. Adapter compatibility is brand and model specific, and how to weigh a bundle against separate pieces is worked through in travel system versus buying separately.
The boot. The BOB frames are 25 or 25.5 inches across even folded, so measure first with measure your boot before you buy a stroller, and check whether the wheels need to come off to fit. How each fold type works day to day is compared in stroller folds explained.
If running is not actually on the cards, go back a step. The all-terrain frames in the best strollers handle gravel paths and long walks without the weight, the price or the fixed-wheel compromises of a dedicated jogger.
Questions people actually ask
Do jogging strollers have to meet a federal safety standard?
Yes. 16 CFR Part 1227 makes ASTM F833-21 mandatory for every carriage and stroller sold in the US, joggers included. It tests the parking brake, stability, restraints and wheel detachment, among other things. It does not require a hand brake or a wrist strap.
Do I need a hand brake on a jogging stroller?
Only if the regular route has real hills. A wrist strap keeps a stroller from rolling away if you lose your grip, but it does nothing to slow one down on a descent. Of these five, the BOB Alterrain Pro and the Thule Glide 3 list a hand brake.
Fixed or swivel front wheel?
A fixed front wheel, like the Thule Glide 3's, tracks straightest at pace but has to be lifted to turn tightly. A swivel wheel that locks straight, as on the BOB, Joovy and Baby Trend frames, runs locked and swivels for errands, which suits a family with one stroller.
How old does a baby need to be to go running in a jogging stroller?
BOB Gear states 8 months for jogging or off-road use, and 8 weeks in the seat for walking only. Thule, Joovy and Baby Trend publish no separate running age on the pages cited here, so the 8-month floor and a pediatrician's sign-off on head control are the right starting point.
Was the Joovy Zoom360 Ultralight recalled?
Yes, in October 2021. The CPSC recall covered about 9,200 units with SKU 8060, 8061, 8067 or 8069 and batch dates from March to October 2020, over a front wheel bearing that could fail or detach. The SKU and batch number are on the label on the inside leg.
